Overall, its tone is bright and gregarious, striking a balance that avoids sharpness or excessive loudness. While relatively consistent through the range, the upper register exhibits a clear, singing quality, while the lower register tends towards warmth and darkness. Condition: This violin is in good condition considering its age. It was recently setup and restored by one of Norway's leading restorers. No significant damages or repairs have been identified. A minor hairline fracture is present at the bottom of the scroll, adjacent to the G-string. However, thorough examination determined it to be superficial, with no structural implications. Some signs of age are evident on the varnish, but this only contributes to the instrument's patina and charm.

Back length: 35.8 cm

Vibrating string length: 33 cm

The instrument has a new bridge and has been fitted with new Evah Pirazzi strings. New bridge. Comes with case.

Not much information is known available for Johannes Dolling. From the violin, we can see that Johannes had formal training in violin making and made at least 6 instruments. This violin's style closely resembles the style that was coming out of the workshop of Johan Rummelhoff-Hansen, a respected violin maker who was active in Oslo from the early and mid 20th century. Rummelhoff-Hansen attracted talented students from across Europe to study with him. It is likely that Johannes Dolling was a student of Rummelhof-Hansen and made this violin while apprenticing with him in Oslo. Johannes Dolling is most likely a German name, so there might be a connection to the famous violin-making Dölling family Markneukirchen, Germany but this is uncertain.
