The bow is stamped "Riechers, Berlin", one of the stamps commonly found on bows by Franz Albert Nürnberger I. Bow comes with a certificate of authenticity by Klaus Grünke.

Franz Albert Nürnberger I (1826–1894) was a prominent German bow maker, part of the esteemed Nürnberger family of luthiers and bow makers in Markneukirchen. Born into a lineage known for its significant contributions to the craft, he was the son of Karl Gottlieb Nürnberger, who had established a reputable workshop in the mid-19th century. Franz Albert I began his training under his father’s guidance, who had himself trained in the C.W. Knopf workshop. His bows can be rather hard to identify, as he never stamped his own work. Franz Albert first appears in the archives in 1853 and is one of the original founders of the bow maker's guild created in 1888.

Throughout his career, Franz Albert I produced bows that reflected the influence of French bow makers like François Tourte, yet he imbued his work with distinct German characteristics. His bows were often marked with the family brand, "Nürnberger," which became a hallmark of quality. His contributions helped establish the Nürnberger name as one of the leading bow-making families in Germany.

He played a crucial role in training the next generation, including his son, Franz Albert Nürnberger II, who would go on to continue and elevate the family tradition. Franz Albert I’s legacy endures through the exceptional bows that are still highly prized by musicians and collectors today, representing a pivotal chapter in the history of bow making.
