Jon Hess

Jon Hess is an award-winning archetier living in Engwiller, France. He began his bow making apprenticeship in 2015 at Gilles Duhaut's workshop in Tours, France where he spent two years. After completing his training in 2017, he focused on crafting new bows and restoration of antique bows. He futher continued his education under renowned bow makers such as Pierre Nehr, Pascal Camurat, and Ulf Johansson.

Jon Hess's bows are played by professional musicians around the world, including in prestigious orchestras such as the Vienna Philharmonic.

Distinctions:

• 2023 - International Violin and Bow Making Competition of Mirecourt, 3rd prize, viola bow
• 2019 - "Viola's" bow making competition in Paris, "Coup de Cœur Marion Duchêne," viola bow
