Ghent, Belgium

Maarten began his violinmaking training at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent in Belgium. At 21, he moved to Poznan, Poland, where he studied under Marcin Krupa at the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Academy of Music.

 

While completing his master’s degree, Maarten traveled across Europe to enhance his skills through masterclasses, internships, and competitions. He graduated with honors from the Royal Conservatory of Ghent.

 

Maarten then relocated to Ringschnait, a village in Germany, where he worked with Ulrich Hinsberger, a multiple gold medal winner, and his wife Dagmar. During this period, he formed a close friendship with the Hinsberger family.

 

After a decade of training, Maarten opened his own workshop in Ghent, specializing in crafting fine violins and violas. He continues to refine his craft by participating in the prestigious summer workshop in Oberlin, USA, collaborating with some of the world’s finest makers.

 

Maarten also teaches at the International Lutherie School of Antwerp (ILSA), passing on his knowledge to the next generation of violinmakers.

 

He is a member of the Violin Society of America (VSA) and the Belgian Violin- & Bow Making Association (BVBM). His work has been showcased at the Cuvée Darling exhibition in Köln (Germany) and EKHO exhibition in Brussels (Belgium).
