Magnus Nedregård

Magnus Nedregård

Oslo, Norway

Magnus Nedregård was born in into a musical family in Ålesund, Norway in 1976, where his father was a singer and music teacher. From a young age, he had an interest in woodworking and craftsmanship and eventually decided to pursue the highest form of this craft: violin making.

He was trained as a violin maker at IPIALL in Cremona, Italy. Nedregård graduated from the school top of his class in 2002 and was the recipient of the Ferraroni scholarship. He gained experience working for award-winning violin maker Alessandro Voltini in Cremona before starting his own workshop in Bergen. In 2007, he moved to Oslo and opened up his own atelier in 2007.

Throughout his career, Magnus has maintained a limited and exclusive production of new instruments tailored for professional musicians. As a restorer for the esteemed Dextra Musica collection, he draws inspiration from a diverse range of world-class instruments crafted by historical masters and schools. While the illustrious masters of Cremona undoubtedly contribute to this collection, it is the Venetian masters who profoundly influence Magnus. He admires their penchant for employing unique, innovative approaches in building each instrument, experimenting to achieve optimal results. The instruments born from these creative endeavors exude distinctiveness and carry the unmistakable imprint of their makers' personalities. Magnus, in turn, channels this spirit into his own instrument-making, striving to create unique and characterful pieces that make their players stand out from the rest.

For him, bowed instruments are both a profession and a passion, and he considers himself privileged to work in the exceptional professional music environment in Norway.
