Mette-Mari Hafslund Vea

Oslo, Norway

Mette-Mari Hafslund Vea was born in Tromsø and raised in Gjøvik, where her musical journey began with the violin. In 2005, she traveled to Parma to enroll in the Bottega di Parma violin making school. Then, in 2008, Mette-Mari completed her studies at the Newark School of Violin Making. As she approached her final year at Newark, she sought a summer job in Oslo and connected with Magnus Nedregård. The summer job proved to be a pivotal experience, and after completing her exams, Mette-Mari returned to Oslo to commence her collaboration with Magnus Nedregård, a partnership that has endured since 2010.

Mette-Mari's expertise lies in bows, where she has specialized in repair, restoration and bow making. She has honed her skills through various courses with the British Violin Makers Association, learning from distinguished figures such as Tim Baker, Derek Wilson, and Evan Orman. Over the past year, she has focused on crafting baroque bows, drawing inspiration from a number of historical examples housed in the Musical Instruments Collection at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, UK.
